October Newsletter

The weather is turning colder, the evenings are drawing in, and it is time for an autumnal update on my activities.

Firstly, I had the pleasure of performing my setting of Gibran's "The Prophet" at St Alfege Greenwich as part of the Trinity Laban recital series. I, Sarah and Charis were most pleased to see so many people there, and we wish to thank both St Alfege and Trinity Laban for their hospitality.

Secondly, my piece "Insomniac Vs. The Brain" got an outing at a concert with New Music Brighton, performed by the incomparable Hannah Shilvock on the Bass Clarinet and the lovely Viola Lenzi on the piano. It was received very well, and I'm glad to have the piece been given a second airing.

Thirdly, I have had my first media commission! I was asked by my good friend Matt Heath to write a track for his YouTube series "Smeargal's Sketch of the Week", where he reviews Pokemon cards. The track I wrote is inspired by the Pokemon soundtracks for the GameBoy Advance, and I had so much fun writing it.

Currently, I'm writing more movements for the Prophet which will be performed at its next outing, and I'm writing a new piece for the Stamford Chamber Orchestra.

All the best,

John
