A long overdue newsletter - April 2026

It has been a long time, and has certainly felt like a long winter! I reckon it’s high time to say what I have been up to since our last newsletter.

Insomniac Vs. The Brain

I’m very pleased to say that this piece has been doing the rounds with its commissioners, Hannah Shilvock and Viola Lenzi, who have been taking it here, there, and everywhere. I can now officially say that my music has been performed in the Royal Albert Hall…in a recital room there, but it’s still a first for me nonetheless!

Music Engraving

My latest work on music engraving has been a contemporary piece for a composer in New England, USA.

Upcoming Premieres

I have two big premieres coming up, one of which is choral, and the other is orchestral. On 6th June, my piece “The Lord is my pilot” is going to get its premiere with the Luminatus Choir at Fotheringhay. Later still, on 27th June, my new commission for the Stamford Chamber Orchestra will receive its premiere - it’s called “The Wealden Rhapsody”, and I’m very excited to be back with this fine group!

In all honesty, I’m going through quite a dry spell regarding work, and what with one scary thing or another going on in the world right now, it has conspired to cast a cloud over me. However, with the return of sunshine (reminding me what colour the sky is, at last), I’m hoping things might be a bit more cheerful going forward.

All the best,

John
