Programme Notes
"Volatilis" means "flying" or "winged being" in Latin. The spirit of being free to soar above the Earth, and the joy and serenity of being able to see for so far in every direction, is the essence I have tried to capture in this piece.
The piece is in three sections:
1 - Main theme: fast and unrelenting.
2 - Quiet and serene, with echoes of the flying theme.
3 - A return to the flying theme, and ends with joy
This piece was written for, and premiered by, the Piatti String Quartet.
