Programme Notes
In late 2018, I joined a most lovely group of people to form a flute quartet. They were Sarah Marine on the flute, Ragnhild Cover (nee Rivertz) on the Viola, and Miranda Stinton on the cello. As time went on into 2019 and we gradually started building a portfolio of performances, I started to think about how I could write for such an ensemble, and this piece is the fruit of my efforts.
The title is meant to be represent an image that I had in my head of oneself as a soul, reaching toward that wonderful visual phenomenon of sunrays (sometimes called godrays), and whilst never quite reaching it, is inspired by their beauty anyway.
