Programme Notes
I wrote this piece in 2018 as part of an exercise at Trinity Laban where I had to write music for dance.
I chose the title "Kin of Calmness" as I was drawn to the alliteration, but also because it shows a small part of my character. I'm not a loud person by nature, and am often to be found trying to escape from the unfiltered noise of the world. Music, for me, provides a focal point that is quite apart from the outside noise, and this piece encapsulates that.
Central to the piece is its rather longing melody which is passed around each of the players in the quartet.
