Programme Notes

This Anthem was written in February 2024 after an exploration of texts that could be performed in and around the Easter season. Quem Quaeris Magdalena means "Who are you looking for, Magdalene?", and it is a brief description of Mary Magdalene's visit to Christ's tomb, only to find it deserted.

The piece starts in a very bleak landscape, reflecting Mary Magdalene's own grief, but slowly brightens as the realisation dawns on her that Christ has been resurrected.
