An Dhá means "The Two" in Gaelic. This is the name of a most talented violin and cello duo that I met in my first year of studies at Trinity. Connected as much in spirit and soul and they are in music, Jaya Hanley (violin) and Sarah James (cello) have a most unique sound that goes above and beyond what one would expect for just two instruments.
I've been given a sneak preview of their latest project: an album called "Celtivation". According to the duo, "Celtivation combines Celtic music from the British Isles with jazz, classical and contemporary ideas through the medium of the Fiddle and Cello. It is an album about perpetuating the growth of Traditional music and is a snapshot in time of our own personal journey through the wilderness of traditional folk music."
It is a most enjoyable collection of folktunes and original compositions with a diverse range of flavours and colours, ranging from the dark and brooding, to the broad and beautiful, followed by pieces of great energy that one can't help but smile along with.
The album is due for release on 30th June 2017, and I most highly recommend that you give it a listen!
